Jorhat College (Amalgamated) is an Arts College of co-education. The name by itself commemorates the history of amalgamation of two different colleges, viz., Jorhat College and New Jorhat College. The amalgamation took place in 1970, but both of its constituents being established on 24th May in 1962, the College may now rightly claim to have completed 60 years of its existence. It celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2012 and celebrated the Diamond Jubilee ceremony during 2022-24 . The college is affiliated with Dibrugarh University and was reaccredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a B++ grade in 2021.
Jorhat College continued its Higher Secondary section with commendable academic excellence. From 2024 onwards, it expanded its Arts stream by introducing several new subjects, including Swadesh Adhyan and Bihu. It is a unique institution specializing in the humanities, with the facility of Major Courses in as many as eight subjects, viz., Assamese, Economics. Education, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology. Jorhat College (Amalgamated) is expanding its academic horizons by introducing Geography, Anthropology and Psychology at the BA level under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) of Dibrugarh University. Currently, the college is offering Major and Minor in Geography, along with Minor option in Psychology. Students will also have the option of choosing Geography/ Anthropology/ Psychology for their compulsory Generic course. From 2023 onwards, the college successfully continued its self-financing courses in 23 selected subjects.
